Oval lidded box in matte off-white ceramic for Rosenthal Studio-Linie, its top modelled as a quiet still life with three cherries resting in a softly folded “cloth” relief. Perfect for collectors of German studio ceramics and Rosenthal Studio-Linie or as a calm, sculptural accent on a sideboard, coffee table or bedside, storing jewellery, keepsakes or small desk items.
Antje Brüggemann-Breckwoldt (1941–2023) was a German ceramist who studied with Jan Bontjes van Beek in Hamburg and Walter Popp in Kassel before establishing her own studios on Sylt and later in Wippershain. She developed a distinct formal language around thrown and handbuilt vessels, reliefs and still lifes, often using fine stoneware clays and reduction firing to achieve subtle, spatially complex surfaces. Elected to the Académie Internationale de la Céramique in 1979, she was widely exhibited and is recognised for her vessel assemblages and sculptural still-life compositions.
Rosenthal, founded in 1879 in Selb, Bavaria, is one of Germany’s leading porcelain and ceramics manufacturers, known for combining industrial precision with experimental design. Through its Studio-Linie programme, Rosenthal worked with international artists and designers – including Brüggemann-Breckwoldt – to create avant-garde vases, bowls and boxes that blur the line between everyday object and collectible design.
