About Berlin Retro Finds
Berlin Retro Finds began with a shared habit - spending weekends exploring Berlin’s flea markets & antique shops in search of objects that felt timeless. Over the years, that habit became a practice, and the practice grew into a collection. Today, we share it with others through an online gallery of mid-century ceramics, porcelain, glassware, and decorative pieces mainly from the 1950s to the 1980s.
Our focus is on the decades that shaped much of modern design: the clean optimism of the 1950s, the futuristic curves of 1960s Space Age, the striking patterns of 1970s Op Art and Brutalism, and the confident forms and colours of the 1980s. While Berlin remains our main hunting ground, we regularly travel to other markets across Germany and neighbouring countries to broaden our search, ensuring a more diverse and exceptional selection.
We are Ivan, a photographer, and Amit, a designer. Our backgrounds in history, visual culture, and design inform the way we see these objects - not only as decorative items, but as part of a larger story about craftsmanship, materials, and the aesthetics of their time.
The people who find us come from different places and with different intentions. Some live far from Europe and cannot visit its flea markets, but want to bring an authentic piece of its design heritage into their homes. Others are interior designers, searching for distinctive, story-rich objects that give a project depth and personality. And some are collectors, looking for the next meaningful addition to their selection - something with provenance, quality, and a place in the history of design.
Whatever brings someone here, our purpose is the same: to ensure that these objects are appreciated, preserved, and placed where they can continue to be valued. Berlin Retro Finds is, in the end, about connecting people with pieces that carry both beauty and history - and making that connection possible no matter where in the world you are.
Yours,
Ivan & Amit
