An elegant patinated metal vase attributed to Paul Haustein, created in Germany during the transition from late Jugendstil to early Art Déco. With its tapering body, softly flared neck, and restrained profile, the piece balances decorative warmth with a more streamlined interwar sensibility. The surface patina adds depth and softness, giving the vase a quiet presence that comes through especially well in changing light.

  • Dimensions: H 30 cm, Dia. 13.5 cm
  • Material: Patinated metal
  • Designer: Attributed to Paul Haustein
  • Color: Bronze-green
  • Era: 1920s–1930s
  • Origin: Germany
  • Condition: Excellent vintage condition; light age-appropriate wear and natural patina consistent with time. No restorations or structural damage.

This vase sits beautifully between Jugendstil softness and early Art Déco clarity. The patinated surface gives it a mellow, lived-in richness, while the tapered silhouette keeps the overall impression calm and balanced. Especially effective on a dark wood table, stone mantel, or alongside ceramic and glass pieces, where its aged metal finish can bring warmth, depth, and a subtle historical note.

Paul Haustein (1880–1944) was a German designer and professor of metal art whose work moved between Jugendstil, reform design, and early Art Déco. Trained in Dresden and Munich, he joined the Darmstadt Artists’ Colony in 1904 and went on to teach for decades at the Stuttgart School of Applied Arts. He worked across metalwork, jewelry, graphic design, and book design, and is especially remembered today for elegant interwar metal objects, including works produced by WMF.
