Large hand-built stoneware object by Karl Fulle from his early 1990s geometric phase, confirmed by the artist. Built from folded slab-like planes with matte engobe surfaces in rust, ochre, muted green, and grey, the piece sits between bowl, relief, and sculpture, with a deep central void that gives the form its tension and presence.

  • Dimensions: H 10 cm, W 42 cm, D 42 cm
  • Material: Stoneware
  • Designer: Karl Fulle
  • Color: Rust, ochre, muted green, and grey
  • Condition: Very good condition; one small corner professionally restored by a ceramic conservator; restoration is stable and visually discreet
  • Era: Early 1990s
  • Origin: Germany
  • Remarks: Signed with the artist’s monogram; artist-confirmed work from the geometric phase

Place it on a low pedestal, console, or large table where the square format and folded planes can read from above. Keep everything around it quiet so the form, shadow, and surface color stay clear.

Karl Fulle (b. 1950) is a German ceramic artist from Steinbach (Eichsfeld) who studied ceramics at Burg Giebichenstein in Halle from 1971 to 1977 under Gertraud Möhwald and Martin Wetzel. His work is known for turning the vessel into a constructed ceramic object, often built from folded slabs and marked by engobe-painted surfaces that sit between painting, relief, and sculpture; from 1991 to 1993 he also taught at Burg Giebichenstein, later returning as guest professor from 2004 to 2006, and he has been a member of the Académie Internationale de la Céramique since 2007.
