An AK Kaiser vase by Manfred Frey, made in matte white biscuit porcelain with a raised fossil-like relief inspired by ammonite and mineral structures. The clean tapered body contrasts with the dense textured front panel, giving the piece a refined 1970s German modernist character.

Manfred Frey (1940) is German porcelain modeller and designer, trained at Alboth & Kaiser and the Johann-Friedrich-Böttger-Institut in Selb. Since the 1960s he has shaped the Kaiser/AK Kaiser collection as chief designer, pioneering white bisque porcelain with Op-Art inspired reliefs and winning several international awards for his vases and vessel forms.

AK Kaiser (known as Alboth & Kaiser until 1970) is a German porcelain manufacturer founded in 1872 by August Alboth in Coburg. Now based in Bad Staffelstein, the company is celebrated for its fine white bodies, detailed bisque relief vases and figurines, as well as richly decorated tableware. Over the decades Kaiser porcelain has become a household presence in Germany and a favourite among collectors looking for refined yet accessible “fine china”.
