Crackle Glaze Studio Ceramic Vase – Richard Bampi, Germany, 1945–1955

Handmade ceramic vase by Richard Bampi, model 204, with a balanced ovoid body and pale grey-white craquelé glaze revealing warm terracotta at the foot. Trained in architecture at the early Bauhaus under Walter Gropius, Bampi later became one of Germany’s leading studio potters, known for restrained forms and experimental glazes.

Richard Bampi (1896–1965) studied architecture at the Bauhaus under Walter Gropius before establishing his ceramic workshop in Kandern. His technically accomplished glazes and disciplined vessel forms made him an influential figure in twentieth-century German ceramics, a legacy continued through the Richard Bampi Prize established after his death.
