A refined porcelain vase designed by E.A. Sundermann for Fürstenberg in 1972, model 62970 with the decor Kugel-Ellipsen. The slender white glazed body is structured by elongated gold-line ellipses converging into pointed ends and framing two textured circular gold fields, creating a graphic surface with a distinctly early 1970s modernist character.

  • Dimensions: H 24 cm, Dia. 9 cm
  • Material: Glazed porcelain with gold decor
  • Brand: Fürstenberg
  • Designer: Ernst August Sundermann
  • Color: White, gold
  • Era: 1970s
  • Origin: Germany
  • Condition: Very good vintage condition; glossy white glaze and gold decoration well preserved. Minor age-related traces consistent with careful handling.

This vase brings a sharper, more graphic kind of elegance than floral or purely ornamental porcelain. The elongated gold ellipses give the form a sense of lift and movement, while the white-and-gold palette keeps it polished and architectural rather than lavish.

Ernst August Sundermann (1926 - 2007) was a German porcelain designer and educator whose work helped define Fürstenberg’s modern design language from the 1960s onward. As head of the manufactory’s development department, he played a central role in aligning Fürstenberg with the formal clarity and refined restraint of postwar European design. His models, including Form 677 and Selecta, are now valued for their balance of sculptural simplicity, functional elegance, and strong design-historical relevance.

Fürstenberg is one of Germany’s oldest porcelain manufacturers, founded in 1747 in Fürstenberg, Lower Saxony by Duke Carl I of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. The manufactory is known for combining long-standing craftsmanship with both historical and contemporary design, and original pieces are typically marked with its characteristic blue “F” beneath a crown.
