Burkhard Vogtherr (1942-2019) was a German industrial and furniture designer whose work bridged rigorous ergonomics with clean, lightweight modernism. After training as a cabinetmaker and studying industrial design in Kassel and Wuppertal, he began his freelance career in 1972 with Rosenthal Einrichtung - the furniture arm of the porcelain maker Rosenthal - where he helped shape the brand’s Hombre household and contract furniture program, and he went on to design internationally for companies such as Arflex, Fritz Hansen, Davis, and Girsberger.
Rosenthal, founded in 1879 in Selb, Bavaria, is one of Germany’s most important porcelain manufacturers, recognised for combining industrial production with high design standards. With its Studio-Linie programme from the 1960s onwards, Rosenthal invited international artists and designers to create avant-garde forms and décors, making pieces like this set both functional objects and design collectibles.
