Johan van Loon (1934–2019) was a Dutch designer and a pivotal figure in European studio ceramics, known for combining sculptural intuition with a textile designer's sensitivity to form. His work for Rosenthal is distinguished by fluid, folded volumes rather than static shapes, and his 1990s collaborations remain among the most sculptural pieces produced for Studio Linie.

Helmut Drexler (1939–2015) developed the satin multicolour Eosin decor as one of Rosenthal's more sophisticated late-20th-century glaze techniques — an iridescent, atmospheric surface shifting between gold, lavender, moss and rose depending on light and angle. His collaboration with van Loon is regarded as a high point of Rosenthal's artistic output in this period.

Rosenthal, founded in 1879 in Selb, Bavaria, is one of Germany's most important porcelain manufacturers. Its Studio-Linie programme, launched in the 1960s, invited international designers and artists to create avant-garde forms and décors, turning objects like this trio into design collectibles as much as functional pieces.
