Large handmade ceramic vase by Kießling Werkstätte with a rounded body, short neck and deep cobalt-blue crystalline glaze forming feather-like patterns in blue-grey and bronze tones.

  • Dimensions: H 28.5 cm, Dia. 26.5 cm
  • Material: Glazed ceramic
  • Brand: Keramische Werkstätte Albert Kießling
  • Color: Cobalt blue, navy blue, steel grey
  • Condition: Very good vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks or restorations.
  • Era: 1990s
  • Origin: Langenhessen, Germany
  • Remarks: Retains its original workshop label reading “Keramische Werkstätte Albert Kießling, Langenhessen, Handarbeit” and an impressed maker’s mark. A later handwritten green number, “1996,” presented as the production date.

The generous rounded form works particularly well on a low sideboard, console or substantial dining table. Display it unfilled to keep attention on the crystalline surface, or add a single broad branch; walnut, brushed steel, smoked glass and natural stone will bring out the glaze’s darker blue and bronze tones.

Albert Kiessling (1909–1964) was a German ceramicist from Langenhessen in East Germany, known for hand-thrown studio pottery with textured crystalline and shrink glazes. His work is especially appreciated for its tactile surfaces, earthy palette, and the so-called “snakeskin” glaze effects that became closely associated with his workshop.
