A tall Scheurich floor vase in glazed ceramic, marked Foreign 248-50, with a softly tapered form, broad shoulder line, and a dry, stone-like speckled surface in cream, sand, and smoky brown tones. The bright yellow glazed interior adds a vivid contrast to the muted exterior, giving the piece a sharper mid-century character.

  • Material: Glazed ceramic
  • Brand: Scheurich Keramik
  • Designer: Attributed to Heinz Siery
  • Color: Cream, sand, brown speckling, yellow interior
  • Era: Mid-century modern, 1950s
  • Origin: West Germany
  • Condition: Very good vintage condition overall. No chips or restorations. Minor age-related wear to glaze and a short hairline at the top edge, visible on close inspection.
  • Remarks: Marked Foreign 248-50 to base; export production.

This vase has a grounded, earthy presence that feels especially good in quieter interiors. The mottled surface keeps the large form visually soft, while the yellow interior gives it a more playful edge when seen from above. It works well on the floor near a low lounge chair, beside walnut furniture, or against off-white and warm grey walls where its texture can stand out gently.

Heinz Siery (1927–2022) was one of the key figures in postwar West German ceramics, valued not only as a designer but also as an organizer of production and form development. His vase shapes helped define the visual language of companies including Fohr, Scheurich, Carstens, and Ruscha, especially in the 1950s and 1960s, where his work is associated with clear proportions, balanced silhouettes, and a refined modernist approach. From 1969 onward, he and Ingrid Siery worked independently in their own Syré atelier, expanding from industrial ceramic design into commissioned interiors, wall works, and later bronze sculpture.

Scheurich Keramik is a German ceramics manufacturer founded in 1928, widely known for its large-scale production of decorative pottery in the post-war decades. The company became a key name in West German ceramic design of the 1960s and 1970s, especially for its bold glazes, strong forms, and highly collectible Fat Lava pieces.
