A pair of German cased-glass vases by Friedrich Kristall, combining vivid blue with opaque white interiors and raised circular “bubble” decoration. The contrasting square and rounded forms reflect the playful geometry and bold optical effects associated with 1970s Pop Art and Space Age design.

  • Dimensions:
    • Square vase: H 16.5 cm, W 12 cm, D 9 cm
    • Round vase: H 18.5 cm, W 15 cm, D 7 cm
  • Material: Cased glass
  • Brand: Friedrich Kristall
  • Color: Blue, White
  • Condition: Very good vintage condition; no chips, cracks, or repairs; minor traces of age and light interior wear
  • Era: 1970s
  • Origin: Germany
  • Remarks: Set of two

Display the pair together on a sideboard, console, or illuminated shelf, where the saturated blues and raised bubble pattern can respond to changing light. Their contrasting forms work particularly well in Pop Art, Space Age, and eclectic modern interiors, either left empty or arranged with a few simple stems.

Friedrich Kristall emerged from the postwar glass industry established in Trappenkamp, northern Germany, in 1946 and was most active during the 1960s and 1970s. The company became known for mouth-blown cased and crystal glass, bold colours, heavy forms, lens-cut surfaces and distinctive Bubble or hooped designs. Today, these pieces are collected for their unmistakable Pop Art and Space Age character, strong optical effects and increasingly limited availability. The factory is no longer operating; production appears to have ended in the early 1980s, although an exact closure date is not reliably documented.
